when i call myself blind i'm not making a legal statement, nor should you assume my needs based on this. i am merely saying that i am not sighted, that i can't see well, that i have low vision.

legal definitions of any kind of disability are inherently ableist and oppressive, and to limit people to those definitions is endorsing that very oppression.
