Jan. 13th, 2024 06:37 pm legal definitions of disability will not be our liberation. diagnosis will not be our liberation. legal & medical recognition of disability will not liberate us because governments & doctors are not our allies but our oppressors. legal & medical recognition can make life significantly easier in the system we live in, but at the end of the day, they will not liberate disabled people. they only help us function slightly better in a system that doesn't want us & sees us as burdens. just because some of us can get benefits from the system doesn't mean the system itself is any kind of liberatory. it just means we have privilege. there are so many disabled people who can't get their disability diagnosed and/or legally recognised. they are just as deserving of liberation as the rest of us. hinging disabled validity on diagnosis and/or legal recognition harms the most marginalised of us. governments and doctors will not bring us liberation. don't rely on them.
